MORTPION is a tic-tac-toe game with a condition: it is meant to be played in 2038.
If you run it before that date, the game doesn’t simply refuse. It responds, as if your presence creates a paradox that the world must contain.
What you find “early” is not a beta, not a demo, and not an unfinished version. It is the other side of the project — the part that exists to protect the timeline.
ABOUT
On the surface, MORTPION is simple: a basic morpion you can play with friends. Underneath, the board becomes a scavenger ritual. Nine “Mortpion Pieces” have been scattered across liminal spaces, and the game demands you bring them back to restore what the board is supposed to be.
These pieces don’t look like pieces. The system represents them as whatever it can: a garden gnome, a toy car, a radio, and other objects that feel randomly chosen...
THE ENTITIES
The world is defended by invisible temporal entities. They don’t behave like monsters; they are corrections ... a process to stabilizes the cycle.
They can slow down and speed up time, and rewind you to your starting point if you push too far. You won’t see them clearly, but you’ll feel time shifting around you.
TOOLS
-
Chronometer (Radar): a clock that becomes a sensor. When it ticks faster, something is closer.
-
Flashlight: a simple tool that helps you navigate, and sometimes reveals details the environment would rather keep in the dark.
BIOMES / LOCATIONS
You’ll move through spaces that feel stitched together by the same broken schedule:
-
Backrooms – endless corridors, wrong geometry,
-
Backrooms Pools – wet tiles, echoing water, reflections
-
Parking – concrete, abandoned tools, a parking lot atmosphere
-
Plains – tall grass, wide emptiness and a lot of garden gnome
GAMEPLAY
-
Explore and recover 9 Mortpion Pieces
-
Use the Chronometer to read temporal proximity
-
Avoid invisible entities manipulating time (slow / fast / rewind)
-
If caught, you are rewound back and the cycle continues
Playtime: ~40 minutes
CONTROLS
-
WASD / ZQSD - Move
-
Mouse - Look
